Blogging can be slow but I still see the potential!

I guess it takes a little time to take off. Getting responses to blogs only come as quick as anyone follows. I am sure I will learn how to build my base of followers. I finished chapter 2 in our book study, so I am waiting for the next set of questions to answer. It is Friday night, I am bored, so I am blogging. Not the educational type of blog I guess, just an entry about my week. I really have been thinking about how a blog can work in my classes. I am sure only a trial will tell, but I am a little skeptical. I am excited about it, but will my students be? I have some lazy children that would much rather be hanging out with friends than blogging about English. At least that is my thought process currently. I really am worried that we don't have the technology at our school to make it totally effective. If the kids don't have it at home (computer) then the whole idea won't reach everyone.

  1. I read Chapter 2 and 3 on Saturday night b/c I was bored! :) I was kind of thinking the same thing as you. How would I really be able to use this in class? Especially in a math class! One thing in the book kept saying is that the classroom would be paperless. I don't see that happening in a math class AND I don't see that in our classes in Frisco. I don't know about your school, but at WHS we only have a couple labs and they get booked by English classes doing research papers. How would I be able to frequently use the labs? I could see it working better if we had even 2 or 3 student computers in the classroom so the kids could rotate to use the internet, but we don't have that either. And we have HAC...would parents and students use a blog more to get information about the class? I am not sure how much they use HAC now but maybe it isn't as personalized as a blog could be? Just not sure how it would actually work, but it could be great if it did work!

  2. They will come....Part of the assignment for chapter 2 and 3 is to both follow and post to each other blogs. You and Jen are way ahead of most of the other participants. Please know Chapter 2 and 3 assignments are not due to the end of March. So they may not get to it until then.

As far as using blogs in your class, if students do not have computers, they can always utilize the blog in the classroom or lab. Blogs can be used in so many ways. I am sure you will find a happy medium. In the next posting, please make sure to visit the classroom blog examples/links that will be posted. You may find some great ideas!
